If you have never tried tofu before, you may be surprised by just how versatile it is. Tofu comes in a variety of textures, from smooth and custard-like silken tofu to firmer varieties with a dense, chewy texture.
Flavour-wise, tofu has a mild, neutral taste, making it a wonderful ingredient for soaking up the flavours you add to it. In this recipe, just a few simple ingredients transform the tofu into deliciously savoury, garlicky bites with a hint of soy.
Serve these golden garlic tofu bites with steamed rice, noodles, stir-fried vegetables or a fresh salad. You can also tuck them into wraps, nourish or protein bowls or lettuce cups for an easy plant-based meal.
With just four ingredients and minimal preparation, this is a simple way to add delicious plant-based goodness to your table.

EQUIPMENT: fry pan, large mixing bowl
INGREDIENTS
1 block firm tofu
1.5 tablespoons plain or gluten free flour
1 - 2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 - 1.5 tablespoons light soy sauce
1-2 tablespoons cooking oil
METHOD
Press the tofu: Drain the tofu and press it under a heavy object for 15 minutes to remove excess water, then cut it into bite-sized cubes.
Sprinkle the flour over the tofu and toss gently until the cubes are lightly coated. Place the tofu in a colander or sieve and give it a shake to remove any excess flour.
Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the tofu in a single layer. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side without moving them too much, flipping until all sides are golden brown and crispy.

Scoop out tofu from the frypan and set aside in a large bowl to cool for at least 20 minutes.
Sprinkle garlic powder over the cooled tofu and toss to coat. Drizzle light soy sauce over the tofu and quickly toss to coat. Let tofu rest to absorb flavours.
