Oat & Walnut Burger Patties

Try these flavourful burger patties that are crispy on the outside and perfectly soft and moist inside. A healthy burger patty recipe made with oats, nuts, seeds and dried herbs.

They are great for any occasion. Enjoy them for a light lunch , picnic lunch, part of a main meal.

Be prepared to fill your freezer, this recipe makes approximately 24 medium size burger patties.

Place them between a bun with salad and all the trimmings. Serve with baked vegetables and a light gravy. Serve with sweet potato fries and onion rings. Serve with your favourite side or with a fresh garden salad.




EQUIPMENT: a large mixing bowl, a food processor or coffee/nut grinder, x2 large baking sheets , silicone egg rings (optional), standard measuring cups and spoons.


PREHEAT OVEN TO 180 DEGREES CELSIUS OR 350 FAHRENHEIT 15 minutes before cooking


INGREDIENTS

390g or 4 cups rolled oats

60g or 1/2 cup walnuts (pulse in food processor or chop finely)

65g or 1/2 cup sunflower seeds (pulse in a food processor or chop finely)

17g or 1/4 cup nutritional yeast flakes

2 teaspoons dried basil

2 teaspoons dried oregano

135g or 3/4 cup onion, finely chopped

80ml or 1/3 cup light soy sauce

1000ml or 4 cups boiling water (filtered water)


METHOD

*Measure and prepare ingredients.

*In a large bowl add rolled oats, walnuts, sunflower seeds, yeast flakes, dried basil dried oregano, and chopped onion. With a spoon stir ingredients to combine.

*In a jug measure the soy sauce and add to it the 4 cups of boiling water, stir to mix.

*Add the soy/water mix to the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly to combine.

*Leave mixture to rest for 20 minutes.

*Prepare two sheet trays lined with baking paper or something similar

*Once the mixture has rested it is time to form the burger patties.

*Take a silicon egg mould and fill with a heaped tablespoon of the burger mixture, pat down with the back of a spoon dipped in water. Remove mould and repeat to fill the tray. If you do not have a mould take a 1/4 0r 1/3 size measuring cup. Fill with the burger mixture and turn out onto tray tap to remove. Flatten and shape the burger mixture using a spoon or knife dipped in water to prevent sticking.



*When the trays are filled take them and place in preheated oven

*Bake burger patties for 45 minutes.

* Remove patties and flip over with a knife or spatula, return them to the oven for another 10 minutes.

*Remove from oven and cool.

*Left over patties may be placed in containers and put in the freezer. When needed remove from freezer and de frost at room temperature.
